Montello Honored by Mayor’s Commission on Women

THE MONTELLO AGENCY, JACKSONVILLE, FL –

The Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women, the Women’s Center of Jacksonville and Women’s Digest recently honored some of Jacksonville’s most successful female professionals at the annual local Equal Pay Day event.

Cynthia Montello, President of the Montello Agency was honored with the Pioneer Award for forging the way for women in the Northeast Florida advertising industry. Organizations nationwide observe Equal Pay Day on April 22 to recognize the point of the new year to which a woman must work in order to earn the wages paid to a man in the previous year.

Several years ago the event sponsors added the Rosie the Riveter Awards to the event to honor pioneers, women who broke the glass ceiling and women who worked in nontraditional fields. Cynthia was awarded along with Randy Kammer of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and Nadine Gramling of Southeastern Metals, who were honored with the Glass Ceiling and Non-Traditional Awards for their successful careers.

“Cynthia immediately came to mind when the commission was looking for nominations,” said Rita Williams, President and Owner of Merchandising Plus. “ What makes Cynthia so special is that she takes the time to reach her hand out and help others. I don’t know anyone who has personally or professionally tried harder or given more to make a difference toward what they are passionate about. She will not rest until she accomplishes all that she has set out to do.”

The Spirit of Rosie Award is named for Rose Will Monroe who became famous as “Rosie the Riveter” while working as a riveter building B-29 and B-24 airplanes during World War II.  The “Rosie the Riveter” movement has been credited with helping to increase the number of working women to 520 million during the four years of the war.

From starting her own advertising agency and forging her way in a male dominated industry, to surviving cancer, to founding her own ministry and conducting seminars for women, to leading praise and worship in a contemporary Christian band, to working in inner city ministry, or donating marketing, public relations and printing services to several local charities and serving on two boards, Cynthia exemplifies the modern day woman who successfully balances marriage, children, career, service and a Christ-centered life.

“I give all honor to God who has blessed me so much in this life and has given me the opportunity to work in a profession that I love.  He has also instilled in me the compassion and ability to look at a situation and compel me to find ways to improve it.  I have continuously strived to share the love of God with others, to raise the self esteem and worth of women, to help inmates find the love of God and know that they are worth the price God paid for them, to improve conditions in the inner city and inspire others to get involved and evoke change on any level,” said Cynthia.  “My greatest blessings, however, are my husband and best friend, Howard, and my two sons, David and Jeff.  I could not do all that I do without their constant help.”

“There is no award more fitting for Cynthia,” said Executive Director of the Northeast Florida Builders Association and City Council President, Daniel Davis. “I have had the pleasure of working with her for many years and she truly is a pioneer and an innovator among both, men and women in the industry.”

It is professional women like Cynthia Montello who inspire other women to achieve similar successes to help the next generation of women in the workplace. Since 1985, The Montello agency has evolved into one of the most influential and well-respected advertising and public relations firms in Jacksonville.  They have opened the door for hundreds of young women over the years in the field of advertising, marketing and public relations through employment, education or mentoring.

Cynthia Montello has over 30 years of experience in the industry and continues to prove that she and her team are one of the best around. Cynthia is a past recipient of the John P. Hall Award, the top honor from the Florida Home Builders Association for outstanding lifetime career achievements and humanitarian efforts.
